Atheist Alliance 2007 Conference DVD Review

The Atheist Alliance International Conference 2007
DVD from Richard Dawkins Foundation for Reason and Science.

I am sure that like me you have in recent months been basking in the pleasures that are uniquely Australian. Enjoying the splendid range and quality of seafood, the magnificent summer fruits and the sheer pleasure of cricket. The Australian summer has much to recommend it. Sometimes I do wish that the rest of the world was not so far away. The distance makes it so much harder to participate in international events like this one.

This DVD set contains 552 minutes of nine outstanding speakers and question and answer sessions after each of their talks. The quality of speakers is outstanding and all of the big names are represented. Richard Dawkins (The God Delusion), Sam Harris (The End of Faith), Daniel Dennett(Breaking the Spell ) and Christopher Hitchens (God is not great). The four horseman of the apocalypse as they have been dubbed. This is indeed the address where Sam Harris argues against the use of the term atheist.

Other speakers of note are Eugenie Scott, Eddie Tabash, Ayaan Hirsi Ali to mention but a few. J. Anderson Thomson gives one of the most interesting addresses on the psychology of suicide bombing and it’s links with religion. Other subjects include Intelligent design and church/state separation. If anything the question and answer sessions are as interesting maybe more so than the various addresses themselves.

having read most of the speakers books and heard many interviews with them over the last few years I would say that this DVD represents a very good snapshot of Atheism at the present time, and where else can you hear all of the major players in one location. The DVD is available direct from the Richard Dawkins foundation.
